Valle del torrente Fiastrone
La Grotta dei Frati, d’origine carsica, si apre su una parete rocciosa sovrastante le gole del Fiastrone. Le prime notizie risalgono ai primi del Duecento, quando ospitò i frati Clareni, una frangia dissidente dell’ordine francescano. Premi per chi arriva a questo traguardo (l’escursione è impegnativa) sono la cappella di S. Egidio e la grande vasca che i frati utilizzavano come riserva d’acqua. Il luogo venne definitivamente abbandonato nel XVII secolo. Durante la Resistenza la grotta ha offerto rifugio alle brigate partigiane. Il Navigatore vi porterà sino alla fine della strada carraia dove inizia il sentiero.
The Grotta dei Frati (the monk’s cave), a cave of carsic origin, opens on a rocky wall above the Fiastrone Gorge. First mentioned in the 1200s, when it accommodated a dissident group of Franciscan monks called the Clareni. The prize for those who reach this goal (the hike is strenuous) is the chapel of S. Egidio and a large pool that the monks used as their water supply. The site was abandoned in the XVII Century. During the Resistance, the cave was used as a refuge by partisans.
