Via San Giacomo

La collegiata di San Giacomo, danneggiata dal sisma del 1279 e depositaria della straordinaria tavoletta (c. 1420) di Giacomo da Recanati con la traslazione del corpo del santo, ora al museo diocesano, fu demolita nel 1503 per far emergere isolata la Rocca borgiana. Il titolo fu riproposto alla chiesa conventuale delle Carmelitane, ricostruita nel 1854 e ornata con tele del ‘700.

Church of S. Giacomo
The collegiate church of S. Giacomo, or church of the Carmine, was damaged by the earthquake of 1279. It used to contain an extraordinary work of art which is now kept in the Diocesan Museum.  This painting, by Giacomo da Recanati (circa 1420), depicts the re-siting of the Saint’s body.The church was demolished in 1503 to better show off the Rocca Borgiana. Its name was put forward to the church of the Carmelites, was rebuilt in 1854 and decorated with 18th Century canvases.
