La cinta muraria di Visso, che sbalordisce per imponenza ed efficienza difensiva, fu costruita tra il 1210 e il 1256 a baluardo del primo nucleo urbano, detto Castel San Giovanni. La Turris Sanctis Johannis, che con i suoi 25 metri si garantiva visibilità in tutto il territorio, ancora domina il borgo e la valle dell’Ussita; sicuramente è la struttura più interessante, poiché, sotto il dominio longobardo, verso l’anno Mille, era già presente. Elementi cinquecenteschi sono addossati su un lato della torre, altri sono emersi nel torrione durante recenti lavori di scavo.
The enclosing walls of Visso, which stun for their imposture and efficient defense, were erected between 1210 -1256 around the first settlement which was known as Castel S. Giovanni. Turris Sanctis Johannis, which at 25 metres tall could be seen throughout the land, still dominates the town and the valley of Ussita; probably the most interesting structure in town, as it was already standing under Longobard domination around the year 1000. Pieces dating from the 16th Century are on one side of the tower and others came to light during recent excavations.
